RECALL ALERT: RUN and Check Your Boxes of Taquitos – Contaminated with Extraneous Materials

taquitos

Ajinomoto Windsor, Inc., a Lampasas, Texas establishment, is recalling approximately 35,168 pounds of frozen ready-to-eat beef taquito products that may be contaminated with extraneous materials, specifically rubber with plastic, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today.

The frozen ready-to-eat beef taquito items were produced on December 30, 2016. The following products are subject to recall:

taquitos2

  • 60-oz. plastic bags inside of a corrugated carton labeled as “JOSÉ OLÉ TAQUITOS BEEF CARNE DE RES IN CORN TORTILLAS Crispy and Crunchy,” with case codes 3366365A, 3366365B, 3366365C, 3366365D and a Best By date of December 30, 2017.

The products subject to recall bear establishment number “Est. M-5590” inside the USDA mark of inspection. These items were shipped to retail locations in California, Florida, Illinois, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wyoming.

The problem was discovered when Ajinomoto Windsor, Inc. received two consumer complaints of foreign material in its ready-to-eat beef products on March 14, 2017 and March 21, 2017. The foreign materials were pieces of rubber with white plastic that originated from the establishments processing equipment.

There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.

Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.

FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.

Consumers and media with questions about the recall can contact Paul Taylor, General Counsel, at (909) 477-4800.

Consumers with food safety questions can “Ask Karen,” the FSIS virtual representative available 24 hours a day at AskKaren.gov or via smartphone at m.askkaren.gov. The toll-free USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline 1-888-MPHotline (1-888-674-6854) is available in English and Spanish and can be reached from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Eastern Time) Monday through Friday. RECALL ALERT: Check Your Doritos – Frito Lay Has Made a Voluntary Recall

recall doritos

Frito-Lay announced a limited voluntary recall of select Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos tortilla chips because they may contain undeclared milk ingredients.  People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to milk run the risk of a serious or life threatening allergic reaction if they consume the affected Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos tortilla chips.  The recalled product also includes additional undeclared ingredients including Yellow 5, Artificial Flavor, Tomato Powder, other Artificial Color (including Yellow 6 and Red 40), Lactic Acid, Citric Acid and Red and Green Bell Pepper Powder.

No other Doritos products or flavors are impacted.

The impacted products are 3 1/8 oz. bags of Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos tortilla chips that have a “guaranteed fresh” date of August 9, a UPC code of 28400-42119 and a manufacturing code of 2711 152 05  OR  2712 152 05.  The “guaranteed fresh” date and manufacturing code are located on the front of the package, and the UPC code is located on the back.  The recalled products were distributed in Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia.  No other states have been impacted.

The recall was initiated after it was discovered that a select number of Spicy Sweet Chili Doritos tortilla chip bags were inadvertently filled with Nacho Cheese Doritos tortilla chips at one of the company’s production facilities. Nacho Cheese Doritos contain different ingredients, potentially exposing consumers to undeclared milk and the other above-mentioned ingredients.

No confirmed illness has been reported to date.  Frito-Lay has informed the FDA of our actions.

RECALL ALERT: 90,000 Pounds of Beef Recalled at Walmart

beef2

A Minnesota meat producer is recalling more than 90,000 pounds of beef that may be contaminated with “extraneous wood materials,” according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The recall involves Sam’s Choice Black Angus Vidalia Onion brand beef patties supplied by the Minnesota-based Huisken Meat Company, according to the release dated Monday. Sam’s Choice products are sold exclusively in Wal-Mart stores.

The recalled items were produced between Nov. 19, 2015 and Dec. 9, 2015 with use-by dates in May and June of 2016.

There have been no confirmed reports of illness from consuming the product, according to the release.

Wal-Mart has told its stores to pull and destroy the product, a company spokesman said, adding that customers who had purchased the item could return it for a refund.

No one at Huisken Meat could be immediately reached for comment.

Officials say the contaminant originated with an incoming ingredient and was discovered during production.

“There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to consumption of these products,” the USDA said in a statement. “Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a healthcare provider.”

Customers who purchased the recalled products are urged not to consume them. Officials say the product should be discarded or returned to the place of purchase.

EOS Under Fire…First Claims Of Mold And NOW A Pending Lawsuit…Will YOU Be Affected? #LizzieSavesAlot #CouponCommunity

Calling all EOS couponers!  Searching for a hot deal may NOT be at the top of your priority list after reading this article!  According to TMZ, the future may not look so bright for EOS, (otherwise know as Evolution of Smooth)!  Mark Geragos, criminal defense lawyer (who has represented big names in the past such as Winona Ryder, Michael Jackson and Chris Brown) filed a Class action lawsuit yesterday (1/12/16) on behalf of Rachael Cronin, and ‘All Others Similarly Situated’ according to Scribd.

The suit alleges the lip balm causes reactions such as rashes, bleeding, blistering, cracking and even loss of pigmentation. Cronin claims that the damage caused by the balm lasted a total of ten days!  These claims are surprising to many, as EOS products are  marketed as primarily natural and organic.

The suit claims a number of violations including:

  • Violations of Consumer LegalRemedies Act
  • Violations of Unfair BusinessPractices Act
  • Breach of Express Warranty
  • Breach of Implied Warranty
  • Unjust Enrichment
  • Fraud, specifically, Intentional Misrepresentation and Concealment of Fact
  • Injunctive Relief

This brand became popular following a frenzy of attention on social media by some very BIG names, including Kim Kardashian, Brittney Spears, Miley Cyrus, and Hillary Duff just to name a few.  The site seems to have no trouble spreading the word about the celebs that use the product, you can even find a link boasting this on the EOS site.  What they have NOT done is publically respond to this class action lawsuit, despite efforts made by TMZ to contact them.

This is not the first time the EOS has found itself in the ‘hot seat’.  According to Snopes , in 2013, photos began circulating the internet claiming that the popular lip balm had ‘black mold’ growing within.  EOS  responded to this with a simple explanation to one user, ‘Thank you  for your email. We’re so sorry to see that! We do very occasionally hear of this. Mold will grow on many surfaces, especially warm and moist places and on products with natural ingredients. The best way to prevent this is to try to not get the lip balm itself wet when applying it (apply to dry lips) and/or let any moisture that’s on the lip balm dry before you put the top back on.’  For some, that may have been explanation enough, but for others, this, in addition to the new claims may be enough to turn them off of EOS altogether.

Stay tuned as we bring you updates on this case, and in the meantime, you may want to hold off on searching for the next best EOS deal and stick to Carmex for awhile!
