How to quickly and easily cut and prepare whole pineapples – Video Katie March

Ohhh I just love it when we have a great sale on WHOLE PINEAPPLE! Don’t you?
Oh, you’ve never prepared a fresh pineapple?
Here is a quick tutorial on preparing a fresh pineapple.

Cutting a fresh pineapple is so easy, once you get the hang of it, you will be just as excited as I am when they go on sale!

Step 1: First cut off the top. Which, if you live in hot climate, you can use this top to grow your very own pineapple. Here is a quick “how to” for growing pineapple. The plants will tolerate as low as 28 degrees, and should be covered if temperatures drop below 28 degrees.

Step 2: Cut off the bottom

Step 3: Go round the sides cutting off the husk.

Step 4. Remove the Core, by again, going round the sides, this time you are harvesting the fruit.

Step 5: Enjoy!

Can YOU Freeze Cream Cheese? How to store cream cheese

Can you Freeze Cream Cheese*YAY* For the STOCKPILERS! We found a GREAT price on Cream Cheese… Now What? I have 20 packages, can I freeze cream cheese?

The Short answer is YES, you can freeze cream cheese. Some say to only freeze those blocks which you plan to use in casseroles, baked dishes or dips. After the cream cheese is thawed, the consistency changes. The creaminess is gone. A liquid (whey) is on top of a crumbly bottom. Which is OK when added to another dish. But there is GOOD NEWS, I found a gal who posted a video about thawing her cream cheese and getting it back to creamy and yummy on a bagel! she said: “I microwaved it for 30 seconds and it sat out for about 20. …and yes it tastes exactly as it did before it was frozen. I’d say it was frozen for 2-3 weeks… Even though it was in the fridge (on the top shelf in the back), it was still MOSTLY frozen. Hope this helps. This is the second time this has happened to me and there” Here is Leah Mallory’s Video

Here is ANOTHER interesting article about Submerging Cream Cheese in Oil before freezing to help maintain its creaminess. The interesting article is the 3rd down on the page. http://cooking.stackexchange.com/questions/48887/how-to-keep-cream-cheese-for-a-long-time

I have not tested either of these methods yet. But thought I would do the research, because I am about to stock up on CREAM CHEESE and need to know!

So the long answers is still YES… and there are several methods suggested to get that creaminess OUT OF THE FREEZER!

How to Store CORN ON THE COB – FREEZER Method

corn on the cob

I have become a pro at FREEZING fresh fruits and veggies. Some people like to can, but I like to FREEZE.  I have plenty of freezer space, and love to see it filled with Veggies bursting with nutrition and flavor!   Corn is one of the easiest veggies to store, to store the whole cobs, you want the largest sized freezer storage bags you can find. If you don’t have the large freezer bags (1 gallon or larger) then you can freeze the cut corn or make cream style corn.

1.  Get the largest pot you have, and get that water boiling.

2. Fill your largest bowl with ice, you will need 1 tray of ice per ear of corn.  (This is to stop the cooking process at the correct time).  If your water runs really cold, this works too. but keep filling and emptying the water till it stops warming.  If you are using the cold water method, pull your corn from the heat sooner.

3. Husk the corn

4.  Blanch the Corn.   Blanching is putting a fresh veggie in boiling water long enough to stop the aging enzymes that break down the fresh veggie.  For corn, that time is  4- 6 minutes.

5. Cool the Corn in your ice water.

6. Once completely cool, drain thoroughly, put in your freezer bags and freeze.

Not enough freezer space?  Try this!

Corn OFF the cob in the freezer:

Follow steps 1 – 5 above

6.  Cut the corn from the ear using a knife.

7. Put in freezer bags and freeze.

SUPER EASY!  there is NEVER a reason to skip a GREAT DEAL on FRESH VEGGIES!
